Can You Build a Happy Marriage Without Your Spouses Help?

One of the interesting things i discovered when doing my research into happy marriage was that many do not try to create a happy marriage because they feel that their partner is not helping.

Now I understand that this can be discouraging and i once thought the same way until i realized it was just building a wall of resentment between me and my wife. Both of us are proud and stubborn people and neither would give any ground in the NEED to be RIGHT about anything. Then after reading this amazing e-book on happy marriage I realized how stupid i had been.

If i was not going to change neither should she!

So what to do to stay happy in marriage? The answer was clear, i had to swallow my pride, lose the ego and take the first step to reconciliation. I walked up to my wife in fact after another yelling match about money and even though I thought I was still right I apologized and said I would support her decision about this money matter because i loved her and respected her.

... well, from one apology and a heartfelt one at that came back three more over the next few days; Small things but meaningful. This was just one small step, add to this starting to say thank you more often and suddenly i am being thanked back. What you put in you get back like a magic. It was always reciprocal and as long as i did not expect it to come back as if i was giving a FAVOR it became the foundations of a new way of life.

So take the first step, you can create a happy marriage without your spouses willing partnership in the transition. They will come along for the ride because you have shown the way with selfless leadership.

My Squidoo lens on the recipe for happy marriage seems to gave gathered a bit of attention which is nice. It is a rather silly piece i put together on a whim but humor is a great connector.

In fact I remember hearing someone once saying the real indicator if a marriage is still working despite any troubles there may be is if the married couple still LAUGH together. When i think back to my own marriage and that of others where I have seen hardship, divorce but also love and endurance i do remember that those couples that survived those problems did always manage to laugh end enjoy each others company at least some of the time.

So if you want to create a happy marriage remember the laugh and enjoy each others company even if you know there are issues that need to be resolved. That laughter will be a bond that can stave off the worst of things until you can get things back on track!

Marital problems and divorce seem to be displayed constantly in the media with celebrities getting married then breaking up, horror stories of domestic abuse and then there is the everyday unhappiness in marriage that gives us the enormous divorce rate ... what are men and women to do to stay happy in marriage?!

This was the question I asked myself a few years ago after an especially petty and vicious argument with my wife over something so small and insignificant i cannot now remember what it was even about! It was difficult to even fathom how far we had fallen from the lovey dovey young couple we once to the bitter unhappy couple we were now who were infecting our children with a terible precedent to mariage; this had to change.

I vowed to make this change myself no matter what the cost to my ego as i truly did love my wife and went on an investigation into the secrets of happy marriage so I could fix our relationship!

What i discovered really opened my eyes to the deep seated problems not just within our marriage but within my own mind and soul that were constantly sabotaging our chances at marital bliss. Keeping a happy marriage was not as easy as i first thought when i first discovered the errors i was continually making.

How to create a happy marriage became an obsession for me from that point on and i would be lying if i said it was easy all the time but i found some amazing resources online from some experts in the field who gave me the recipe for happy marriage that i could follow and reinvent to suit my own unique style.

I set this blog up to bring you some of the tips i have learned hoping I can spread some marital bliss through the world to you because the world needs more loving couples for so many reasons!
